2026 Evaluations
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at evaluations this week. Evaluations at Gordie Howe Sports Complex, 1303 Ave P South! Please review the important information below carefully.
Arrival Time: Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled evaluation time to:

Warm up before your evaluation begins
Once your evaluation is complete, you are free to leave. Parents Can view from Upstairs.
What to Bring / Wear

Please do NOT wear any academy clothing (Berries, Inside Pitch, Going Yard, etc.)
Royals Baseball Evaluations are conducted by Inside Pitch
Grading Information
Players will be graded on the below criteria. Each player will have a score out of 60 points. Age categories for evaluation rankings will be based on age divisions (11U, 13U, 15U, etc.).
Please ask any Royals volunteer or Inside Pitch Evaluator/Assistant if you have questions about a respective station.
1. Throwing / Pitching (15 pts total)
Graded on mechanics, velocity and command.
Command:
-
3 warm-up throws (NOT graded)
-
5 throws off the mound at age-appropriate distance
-
Score based on number of quality pitches out of 5
Mechanics (5 pts):
-
5 = excellent, repeats every throw, strong balance
-
3 = basic understanding, repeats often
-
1 = no understanding of setup/mechanics, not repeatable
Velocity (5 pts):
-
Scaled score based on age division
-
3 shuffle throws + 3 mound throws
-
Top velocity recorded
Notes: Radar is NOT used during command throws. Fastballs only (off-speed pitches are not graded)
2. Hitting (15 pts total)
Graded on exit velocity, contact rate and mechanics.

Warm up at the tee station on your own
-
3 warm-up swings off live pitcher (NOT graded)
-
10 total graded swings off a live overhand arm
-
Evaluation is based on swings only (players are NOT deducted for taking a strike)
Mechanics (5 pts):
Evaluated on box awareness, proper load, swing through the ball, sequencing, and balance.
Exit Velocity (5 pts):
Top exit velocity from the 10 swings recorded (scaled by age).
Contact Rate (5 pts):
Number of hard hits out of 10 swings.
Example: 6 hard hits = 3 points.
Each hard contact = 0.5 points.
3. Infield (15 pts total)
Graded on plays made, throwing accuracy and technique.

6 total reps (2 middle, 2 left, 2 right)

Backhand ability will be evaluated based on throwing hand
Plays Made (6 pts):
Number of successful plays out of 6
Throwing Accuracy (4 pts):
Ability to hit net at 1B

4 pts = all throws hit net

2 pts = half hit net
-
0 pts = none hit net
Low throws / 1-2 bounces are acceptable if they hit the net.
Velocity is NOT graded during infield portion.
Technique (5 pts):
Proper setup, footwork to ball, staying low and through the baseball, momentum toward target.
4. Outfield (10 pts total)
Graded on catches made and ability to track the ball.
